Biking to DC Sunday July 17th

When: Sunday July 17th, 9:30AM meetup, come back in the afternoon or possibly early evening.
What: Biking on Capital Crescent Trail / Rock Creek Trail to DC/National Mall

Hey everyone,

Is anybody interested in going biking this Sunday? There were a few logistic problems I tried figuring out, such as lack of bikes, transporation, etc. Here’s the plan I arrived at:

We meet up in Bethesda by Waverly Garage that’s free during the weekend. Here’s Google Map of this location. You can either drive there, or you can park at any other metro station and then take metro (with your own bike if you want) to Bethesda Metro station, and the parking ramp is only 2 blocks away.

We rent bikes from Big Wheel Bikes, which is about 0.7 mi away, a 10-15 mins walk. Their rate is typical in the greater dc region, $25-35 for the whole day, or about $5-8 by the hour.

I know a trail (Capital Crescent Trail)  that starts less than half mile from their shop that will take us away from the hustle and bustle of Bethesda and dump us right into nature. In fact, if you want you get to ride across Wisconsin Ave, *underground*

We will ride south, which leads us into National Mall. The whole ride will be on trail, and more than half of the time we’re riding along the Potomac River.

The ride is moderate – about 12 mi. We can hang around in National Mall or Tidal Basin, visit arboretum, eat, whatnot.

For those that have bikes: you can ride metro with your bike, get a bike rack and transport it by car, or you can also take off the wheel and transport it, which is what I used to do before getting a rack. I’ll be bringing two bikes by car.

Hope you’ll join me!
